LESSER-KNOWN POLYGONS No. 13

No one knows the names of polygons that have more than 8 sides (or heptagon, the one with 7 sides). Not that this is a crime or anything, how often do you need to know the name of a 13-sided polygon? But there’s something beautiful, pure and right in geometry that we often miss. I thought there might be something worth pursuing in it. And thus, the lesser-known polygon series was born. This is one of 5 original designs, the only one that ever made it to printing. Speaking of printing, these are all hand-pulled screen prints using a two screen process.

It was just a lot of fun printing these. The shapes, the angles, the blocks of color… intersecting lines and the sense of completeness in a circle… the inherent beauty of symmetry and proportion... not to mention confusing equations and small type that fits neatly in a corner. I couldn’t resist.

This print has been featured on NOTCOT.org and ffffound.com as well as published in the student publication "The Outlet" at Brigham Young University - Idaho.
